"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.' This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
